Thinklabs remains the audio performance leader setting a new standard for sound quality. New functions and features are thoughtfully designed for user-friendly clinical use. The ds32a amplifies up to 50X with continuously-adjustable volume control, or, with a single click, Acoustic mode electronically produces the sound of an outstanding acoustic stethoscope. Allows for instant comparison between amplified and conventional sound. With the patented Electromagnetic Diaphragm (EmD), the ds32a is the only stethoscope to use an actual stethoscope diaphragm as an electronic sensor, so heart and lungs have a familiar sound, rather than the artificial or muffled sound of alternative sensors and microphones.
High-Power Audio Amplifier – With 2 AAA batteries for months of operation, and internal voltage boosting, the ds32a has the power to produce clear low frequencies for heart murmurs, with more headroom than low-power single-cell stethoscopes.
Tunable Diaphragm –The EmD diaphragm provides tactile control over auscultation. Light pressure provides low frequency sensitivity. Increase pressure for greater sensitivity for obese patients or distant sounds. Further pressure accentuates higher-pitched breath sounds. Easy and intuitive to use, the ds32a has taken tunable diaphragms to new levels with both frequency and sensitivity control simply with pressure changes – familiarity made new.
New! Second-Generation Ambient Noise Rejection (ANR2) – Thinklabs pioneered ambient noise rejection with its patented EmD technology which intrinsically rejects ambient noise right at the diaphragm. ANR2 provides a new 2nd stage of noise rejection for even better performance in high-noise environments. Activate noise rejection when needed, or deactivate in normal office environments when noise rejection is unnecessary, thereby providing the purest audio dynamics. ANR2 gives you control of ambient noise.
Loudspeaker Drivers and Eartips – High-efficiency Neodymium magnet drivers are placed right at the eartips for highest clarity. Losses due to sound traveling through long tubing are eliminated. Soft silicone eartips require almost no headphone spring tension offering a new level of comfort.
User-Friendly – 3 keys, with obvious labels (Power, Bell-Diaphragm, Amplify), a simple volume control, and color-coded LEDs make ds32a operation simple and quick, while providing unprecedented control of the listening experience.
New! Mute Function – when your patient talks during a carotid exam, coughs, or a baby cries, mute the sounds at the push of a button.
New! Fully Programmable Settings – Simply power up and use. Or personalize the ds32a to power up with every mode initially set to your preferences – Amplify/Acoustic, Bell/Diaphragm, ANR2 Active/Inactive, Auto Shutoff time 2/2/3/4 minutes.
Audio Input/Output Port – provides for recording and listening to recorded sounds.
Construction – Thinklabs proves that electronics do not mean compromising the solid look and feel of a quality stethoscope. The lightweight ds32a has a solid aluminum probe, and stainless steel headphone tubes. Materials are latex-free.
Pros: The ds32a Digital Stethoscope does a good job. It allows me to clearly hear heart beat sounds. I'm still adjusting to hearing breath sounds. I finally learned how to set up the stethoscope for ideal operation so I get the best performance right away.

Excellent Stethoscope!
Submitted: 10/31/2009 by Rose
Pros: I love this stethoscope! I had a digital Littman which was pretty good, but I never felt I heard the best sound for a digital. After only 3 years (and almost $400), the inside of the Littman disintegrated. Strange! So I tried the Thinklabs and I love the sound. Takes some getting used to, but I am pretty good with it after a couple of weeks. I had a problem with the sound shorting out so I thought it would be weeks for repairs, etc. Wrong! I could not believe how quickly this site replaced my stethoscope..like in less than a week! Amazing service and I plan to buy all of my equipment from here!
Cons: Well, a brand new one did not work so well after a couple of weeks, but my replacement one works great after several weeks. For the price, I am happy! Takes some getting used to maneuvering the three buttons but the sound you get is well worth it!

Pros: I'm very impressed with all the features this product has and how well they work, but then again, I did a bit of shopping around before purchasing. The sound quality and the ability to mute the amplification when the pt coughs or talks is amazing. I'm very happy with my purchase.
Cons: The only con, and I guess you could call it a complaint, is that the tube isn't as flexible as my old acoustic stethoscope. But for all the other pros, it's a small trade off. And it still fits around my neck, so I'm not even worried about it.

Works great!

Pros: I am 90 db deaf in both ears and I use a BTE hearing aid. I decided to purchase this stethoscope because it had a volume control and a headphone jack to which I can plug in my FM transmitter. It works great and I can hear everything with it! I shared it with my colleagues and they are all interested in buying one too! I received it via standard USPS 7 days after ordering it, very speedy for where I live. Great product, great service.
Cons: None found yet. I don't really use the ear pieces since I have my FM transmitter that I hook up to the headphone jack, it may be nice to be able to remove those extensions.

Digital Stethescope
Submitted: 9/14/2009 by Pamela Dastrup
Pros: The best for acoustics. Comfortable. Better than the Littman or American diagnostics for sounds.
Cons: Awkward to use until you become comfortable with controls. Earpieces fall off easily. I used the replacement earpieces within two weeks and need to order more.

The ER: Where Assessment Counts

Pros: -Great quality for hard to hear sounds
-Lighter than expected, same as old Littman
Cons: -Mid range sounds are not the best
-Not the most ergonomically correct device (little awkward to swap between modes)
-Abrupt sound initiation
-Ear pieces look cheap

Hearing subtle details I've never heard before
Submitted: 8/11/2009 by Rider, RN
Pros: I've been using the ds32a for about 1 week, and am astounded at the minute detail of the sounds I am hearing. It took about half a day of calibration (playing with the buttons and volume) to get things just right. I find holding the bell near the tube is helpful in reducing feedback, however that is my only negative feedback. I can't fathom going back to an analog stethoscope! The difference is worth every penny, especially with the amount of importance placed on our interpretation!

Near deaf DVM LOVES the ds32a!
Submitted: 7/27/2009 by kurt blaicher
Pros: This is the best electronic stethoscope I've owned. The W/A was not sturdy enough for small animal use, and I had another brand with subpar acoustics. The ds32a has great acoustics, with plenty of head room in gain (I'm deaf in one ear, and slightly diminished in the other). Renditions are very accurate, and it's very comfortable to use.It is extremely well built. Hair coat does not attenuate signal at all. I love it!!
Cons: This isn't a concern for human medicine practitioners, as two handed operation is the norm, but for veterinarians, one handed operation (we use the other to restrain our patients, or close their mouth, or keep them from mauling us, etc.)prevents easy function switching at the bifurcation. Then again, if you're a veterinarian, you adapt!

Pros: Good amplification at times. Can hear things that were not heard before.
Peds patients and fellow residents like it.
Ear buds are very comfortable.
Cons: Sound disappears when not sealed to skin, i.e. it is sometimes difficult to place the diaphragm on skin in order to make a seal, such as a crying 5 pound baby, a patient with anorexia nervosa, a non-cooperative patient.
For some reason, the bell is the initial setting.

A great product
Submitted: 6/29/2009 by Ed
Pros: Fast shipping. Engraving service did an outstanding job. Product arrived well packaged and included a set of batteries. The ear pieces are the most comfortable I have ever owned and are noise cancelling so you only hear what you want to hear. You can really hear every murmur and even the most hypoactive of bowel sounds. I work in an ER and I will never be without this stethoscope again!
Cons: If the patient speaks while you are trying to ascultate lung sounds the amplification can be downright painful! The electronic diaphragm is very pressure sensitive and even a slight increase or decrease in applied pressure greatly changes the nature of the sound- takes a fine hand and some getting used to but this is only a small negative.

I like it!

Pros: I am a physician with both conductive hearing loss and Meniere's disease in one ear,so an electronic stethocope is not optional for me. I've had a Welch Allyn Elite for years,The company fixed it free a few times, but this time wanted $300.00 to fix it. I went to Electronic Stethoscope.com and read the reviews. A couple of the reviewers rated Thinklabs ds32a better than the Welch Allyn, so I ordered it. It was nearly $100 cheaper. It is slightly lighter but still sturdy. The controls are easy to find. The LED lights help me know where I am--and are fun. They also keep kids occupied while I look in their ears (a bonus). Finally, I got my name engraved for $20 and it arrived in 2 days! I like being able to use it as a regular scope too, just to compare the sounds. Re-enforces me daily that I made a good decision!
Cons: There are really no cons. It takes a bit to find the controls and get them adusted correctly. There is a way to set memory either for last used or a standard preset, but I have not tried this yet.
One small detail in the instructions is important: bell modem not bell. I spent a day trying to hear on the smaller side of the scope----I am afraid this was more telling on me than on the Thinklabs ds32a!

Thinklabs ds32a
Submitted: 5/11/2009 by KasMD
Pros: This is my third electronic stethoscope, the first two having been HP/Philips scopes which are no longer available. I am grateful that the ear-tubes in this model is that traditional ones rather than the plastic hard pieces that the HP/Philips employed. Those broke on mine, hence the necessity of having to buy the second one. The sound is good although I could use my HP/Philips through clothing which is not recommended for the Thinklabs.
Cons: My favorite characteristic of the HP/Philips was that you could get one with longer-anesthesia length- ear tubes. The Thinklabs is only available with traditional length ear tubes which for a pediatrician means you have to get close to the frightened child right off the bat. Not optimal.

Thinklabs stethoscope
Submitted: 5/07/2009 by H. Merritt
Pros: The earbuds and the spring are the best and most comfortable I have every experienced. They seal out ambient sound wonderfully.
Cons: The controls are not quite as simple or well placed as on my old Phillips. Sound quality is OK but not as good as expected. Also, the sound quality is crackly and breaks up when listening to struggling, crying infants. This is something intrinsic to the electronics of this stethoscope.

Love the Thinklabs
Submitted: 4/09/2009 by JC (RN)
Pros: I had an analog stethoscope for 20 years but no longer could get it repaired due to being discontinued. A coworker has a Thinklabs and she allowed me to try it. It works very well and I'm very pleased with it. The price is right too! I started using my stethoscope within a week after ordering it. Very timely service. I also purchased the 3 year protection plan available from Thinklabs themselves.
Cons: Getting used to pushing the right buttons.

great stethoscope for the price
Submitted: 4/08/2009 by siri atma
Pros: I have bad hearing. I have used a Harvey Triple-head scope for 20 years because of the excellent sound quality. I purchased the thinklabs ds32a because it was highly rated and at $200, was worth the risk. The sound quality is excellent. Heart sounds are identical to my Harvey. I use the stethoscope on maximium volume and the heart sounds are approx. 3x's louder than my Harvey. The scope is intuitive. I haven't read the directions yet and am happy with the features.
Cons: My only concern is that I could actually use more amplification. I am satisfied with the sound level, but I am already using it at maximium volume, so that is concerning. For comparison, I can't use littman scopes as I can't hear any details. Also, the battery compartment cover does not have a second lock, so I think that I will put a little clear tape on it, 'just in case'. The scope is lighter than my Harvey, so I don't have any complaint on weight. engraving nice

ThinkLabs ds32a digital stethoscope
Submitted: 3/18/2009 by TS (RN)
Pros: This stethoscope is amazing! I have some hearing loss which makes my job in a busy/loud emergency department difficult at times. What a difference this stethoscope makes, I am no longer struggling to hear lung, bowel or heart sounds. It's also convenient because it takes 2 AAA batteries, nothing specialized. It was engraved just as I had ordered and it arrived at my front door only 3 days after had I placed the order via the internet :) I would definitely recommend this stethoscope. I will do business again with the company due to its great customer service!! Thank you......

Submitted: 1/08/2009 by Shelley Ameduri
Pros: This is the best stethoscope I've ever owned. At first you have to get used to the excellent sound quality because it seems really loud, but all you have to do is play around with the volume. After you get used to it, you can't go back to regular scopes. I use this scope on all patient populations: neonates, COPDers, intubated patients, etc. and it meets ALL of my needs. The FIRST thing I noticed when I took it out of the box was how light it was. I thought it would be heavier. I have had no trouble at all with my battery life. I have it set to automatically turn off pretty quick though. I love it and would buy it again. I definitely recommend this stethoscope. The price is right too! I had no delivery problems to Hawaii and my engraving is very nice...exactly what I wanted. Wish I has ordered this years ago.
